Entitled “Faster”, The Bad Batch Season 2 Ep 4 rips off a key plotline from The Phantom Menace. Essentially, Omega, Tech and Wrecker accompany Cid to Safa Toma where they witness Cid’s latest business venture – Riot Racing. Remember Pod Racing from Star Wars Episode One? Well, this is the extreme version, presumably.
The plot of The Bad Batch Season 2 Ep 4 is plain and simple. In order to save Cid from the clutches of Millegi a Safa Toma crime boss, they have to figure out how to defeat Jet Venom, Millegi’s racing champion after Tay-O, Cid’s droid racer is put out of commission. Well, specifically, Tech as he replaces Tay-O and Tech takes calculated risks to ultimately win the crucial race and save Cid.
Not very exciting overall, as this episode comes across like a filler – as did the previous one spotlighting Crosshair. Perhaps the episode was meant to provide nostalgia as it brought back memories of The Phantom Menace but other than that, what was the point? There is doubt cast on Cid’s loyalty which presumably would come into play in later episodes.
In the final analysis, while the episode was enjoyable as a standalone, there is not much more to recommended it by. At most, it highlighted Tech’s ability to take risks and come up with a viable solution when it was crunch time. Other than that, nothing much else.
