The Bad Batch Season 2 Ep 3 is the third chapter of the second season of an American animated series created by Dave Filoni for the streaming service Disney+. It is part of the Star Wars franchise, acting as both a sequel to, and spin-off from, the series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
S P O I L E R S
Entitled “Solitary Clone”, The Bad Batch Season 2 Ep 3 focuses on Crosshair, the Bad Batch member that succumbed to the chip embedded in his brain and chose to be loyal to the Empire, thus betraying his former comrades. The premise involves a mission that Crosshair has to undertake together with a clone section commanded by Cody (from The Clone Wars) – to rescue an Imperial Governor attempting to occupying Desix, a former separatist planet.
The Bad Batch Season 2 Ep 3 strongly recalls The Clone Wars with clone troopers fighting droid soldiers but this time the clones are on the side of the Empire and therefore, the bad guys while the droids are now technically the good guys! This makes it difficult for the viewer to know who exactly to root for and the initial reaction is one of confusion and frustration as we were unable to engage with the protagonists of the piece!
However, the episode redeems this apparent writing flaw by making Cody attempt to make peace with the Desix governor but of course it ends in tears as Crosshair executes her – at the Imperial Governor’s order – as soon as the opportunity arises. This showcases the clones’ dilemma with respect to Order 66 and the replacement of the democratic Republic with the fascistic Empire. By the close of the chapter, Cody has gone AWOL while Crosshair continues to be a loyal little soldier. Will Cody end up collaborating with the Bad Batch? We shall see.
