Synopsis
A secret government agency led by Amanda Waller recruits imprisoned supervillains (as Task Force X) to execute dangerous black ops missions and save the world from a powerful threat, in exchange for leaner sentences. Directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jared Leto (Joker), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Viola Davis (Waller) and many others.
Yes, this is a fantastic trailer. BUT even the Fantastic Four reboot had a fantastic trailer! So who knows?
All I know is that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn is going to steal the show. And combined with Jared Leto’s Joker? Surely a Joker-Harley movie cannot be far behind…
Hope DC has enough Harley Quinn toys ready for the inevitable demand.
There have been doubts about Warner Bros throwing in a Suicide Squad movie adaptation so quickly in the mix but they wanted to different themselves from Marvel Studios, then this is certainly one way to do it! A super-villain team-up? How more contrasting to The Avengers can you get? From the trailer, it is clear who will getting the most fan attention – Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and of course, Jared Leto’s Joker. Looks like an interesting ride, if nothing else.
The Joker in Suicide Squad makes no sense to me at all. Can you imagine the Joker as a team player? So for me, that whole concept is already somewhat of a non starter.
But of course, Warners wanted a character that would conceivably sell tickets (nobody else in the Suicide Squad has that profile – Captain Boomerang?) and thus the rationale becomes crystal clear.
Remember the last time, geeks kicked up a fuss (pre-movie) about the Joker? The late Heath Ledger gave the performance of his life, which earned him a posthumous Academy Award (f0r a superhero film, no less). Therefore, as much as the tattoos seem very un-Joker-like (“Damaged”? Really?), seeing is believing and let’s watch the Suicide Squad before going ballistic.
