In general terms, the post-punk revival has overstayed its welcome – seriously, stop ripping off Ian Curtis and Joy Division already. But that judgement call does not fall on Savages. It’s fair to say that despite the band’s superficial association with this movement, the all-female quartet really are a class above and unlike their peers, actually have something to say.
Rock ‘n’ roll might not have the same commercial or cultural impact it used to have but we promise to keep the flag flying.

The Parson Red Heads – Orb Weaver
Probably one the bands that come closest to the spirit and vibe of 90s alt-country (viz. Son Volt, The Jayhawks, Wilco), The Parson Red Heads released one of the most 60s-evoking albums this year.
If nothing else, Laneway Singapore provides an opportunity to catch upcoming indie bands you fancy and very possibly discover new obsessions. The 2014 edition is no different – judging from the lineup above. For me, personally, it’s got to be the following: –
Hottest indie band on the planet now? Could very well be. I was fortunate enough to catch them when I was in London in May. Believe the hype!
