Entitled “Kill List”, Succession Season 4 Ep 5 finds the new Wayco interim CEOs Kendall and Roman facing their first challenge – completing the sale of Wayco to Mattson. The negotiations are fraught, with lots of dick measuring, mind games and second-guessing. Presumably, this is the way most big business transactions go down? Who even knows for sure. Meanwhile, the somewhat disgruntled Shiv seems to be the proverbial fly in the ointment, aiding Mattson while appearing flippant to her brothers.
Succession Season 4 Ep 5 also depicts the paranoia and uncertainty the Wayco underlings experience as they wait on news as to who is in and who is out after the acquisition. Tom and Greg continue to try to worm their way into the good graces of anyone who could and would help them. Disgusting to watch for sure. The ‘old guard’ presumably are just waiting for their golden parachute to be as voluminous as possible. It is not a pretty sight.
And there’s Mattson, who somewhat unwisely confides in Shiv about an inappropriate relationship with one of his distaff employees where he obsessively sends her a frozen brick of his blood on a regular basis! Now that is sick and twisted. What is wrong with these people! If its dark and disturbing characterisation you are looking for and prime examples of toxic male behaviour 101, Succession is the show for you! Ugh!
