Strange New Worlds Season 2 Ep 10 is the final instalment of the second season of an American scifi space opera television drama created by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet for the streaming service Paramount+. A spin-off of the Discovery series, Strange New Worlds features the USS Enterprise captained by Christopher Pike and set a decade before the events in the original Star Trek TV series.

Entitled “Hegemony”, Strange New Worlds Season 2 Ep 10 is probably the darkest chapter of this excellent season and appropriately ends on a cliffhanger. This cliffhanger hearkens back to a classic Trek trope of delivering two-part episodes across a season finale and a season opener. This entry also brings the Gorn back as the main protagonists and as previously seen, they are a formidable and vicious species.
Strange New Worlds Season 2 Ep 10 is primarily about Captain Pike, about what he will do to safeguard and protect people under his care. The stakes are raised when his lover Captain Batel’s ship Cayuga is destroyed by the Gorn while it is on a routine visit to a Federation colony on Parnassus Beta while Batel is planet side. Disobeying Starfleet’s orders, Pike assembles an away team to rescue the colonists which includes M’Benga, Ortegas, Noonien-Singh and George Kirk.
While on the planet, the team realises that the Gorn occupiers are chiefly made up of younglings and they have set up a machine that prevents all communications and transportation to and from the planet. Along the way, Montgomery Scott (from TOS) makes an appearance and Spock and Nurse Chapel have a special moment together on the Cayuga wreckage and a plan to destroy the machine.
So… the goal is crystal clear – destroy the machine, teleport the colonists off planet and get away. While the first part of the plan is achieved, The remaining colonists are taken by the Gorn to their own craft and Pike is left with a dilemma. Pursue the Gorn or withdraw, as instructed by Starfleet. What will Pike decide?
In the final analysis, Strange New Worlds Season 2 Ep 10 caps off yet another entertaining and engaging season of this wonderful Star Trek series. Looking forward to Season 3! Highly recommended!!
