Strange New Worlds Season 1 Episode 6 is the sixth instalment of an American scifi space opera television drama created by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet for the streaming service Paramount+. A spin-off of the Discovery series, Strange New Worlds features the USS Enterprise captained by Christopher Pike and set a decade before the events in the original Star Trek TV series. Arguably, Discovery’s second season – which introduced Anson Mount’s version of Pike – has been the best so far, so it’s no surprise that this series is now a reality.

Entitled “Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach”, Strange New Worlds Season 1 Episode 6 is a very heavy episode with a serious theme — a very traditional Star Trek story in a series that completely hearkens back to The Original Series. The focus is back on Captain Christopher Pike as he (and the Enterprise crew) attempt to make sense of an idyllic planet that is hiding a dark and terrible secret.
Strange New Worlds Season 1 Episode 6 also reunites Pike with Alora, a lost love of his life, as she and another elder require the aid of the Enterprise to save and protect the life of the planet’s First Servant from an alien threat, a young boy who is about to ‘ascend’ to his holy scientific position. Seems straight-forward but things are not as they seem and Alora lies to Pike in order to protect this dark secret.
Apparently, the script for this episode was adapted from an original teleplay by Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and it certainly has that classic Trek feel about it, for sure. As Pike and the crew discover more about what will happen to the First Servant, Pike finds himself in a moral quandary. In the end, the reality sickens and disgusts Pike and despite his romantic feelings for Alora – and his best efforts – he is powerless to save the First Servant from his actual horrific fate.
Strange New Worlds Season 1 Episode 6 will no doubt satisfy the hardcore Trekkers out there. Recommended!
