Dirty rock ‘n’ roll.
That basically sums up rocker Stephen Clair‘s new album, Strange Perfume. It’s balls to the wall, no-frills rock ‘n’ roll music that never tries to be anything else.
Imagine Ray Davies and the Boss, imbued with the alternative rock spirit of The Replacements, Soul Asylum and Cracker, not to mention the alt-country nuances of early Wilco and Jayhawks.
Can it really be that good? Believe me, it surely can. From the rollicking honky-tonk-Stonesy title track to the confessional “If We Last Long Enough” to the ominous closer “What Got in Your Head”, the album is filled with dynamic rock gems that will leaving true blue rockers smiling.
Raw and in-your-face, Strange Perfume reminds us all of the visceral power of rock ‘n’ roll, without pretence or artifice.
Strange Perfume will be released on October 11th.
… still there’s more …
