Entitled “Surrender”, Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Ep 8 presents to us the most complete and perhaps the most satisfying chapter so far. With real stakes provided by Vadic’s threat to murder crew members until Jack Crusher surrendered himself, there appeared to be no viable path to overcoming Vadic. While that entire opening sequence with Vadic on the bridge seemed to go on for a tad too long, in hindsight, it was necessary to build up the tension to a sufficient level such that when it was released, the viewer would experience a heightened sense of satisfaction.
After skipping them previously, Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Ep 8 brought Riker and Troi into the equation, as well as Worf and Raffi to level the playing field somewhat. However, ultimately the tide is turned with the aid of the new Data. In an emotional sequence, Data is able to overcome Lore when La Forge removes the partition in their brain with the deceptive use of his treasured memories! Brilliant!
Once Data takes control of the Titan from Vadic, the plan is executed to defeat Vadic, ultimately resulting in her demise, thrown out into dead space – a common scifi trope. The episode ends with Troi attempting to get Jack to open the red door in his mind’s eye, thereby setting up the remainder of this exciting season. Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Ep 8 proudly declares that this final season is a triumph! Highly recommended!!
