Special Ops: Lioness Part 4

Special Ops: Lioness Part 4 is the fourth chapter of an American spy thriller television series created by Taylor Sheridan. The premise is about a female Marine tasked with befriending the daughter of a suspected terrorist who is being surveilled by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The series stars Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman.

Special Ops: Lioness Part 4 delivers its best taut narrative so far and it comes from an unexpected source. All along there had been some confusion between who the lead character was – Joe or Cruz? In addition, there were familial setups for Joe that did not seem to go anywhere in terms of plot or characterisation. Well, that is all paid off here. And how.

Special Ops: Lioness Part 4 shines the spotlight strongly on Joe. Cruz plays a bit part simply playing the undercover asset and not very well, as it turns out. While Joe has to deal with multiple dramas somewhat out of her control. Top of the bill is her 14-year-old daughter’s car crash which also reveals that she is pregnant (!), then Joe is let down by a fellow CIA operative, whose illegal operations – with some of Joe’s team – goes south and finally, Cruz is drugged and almost raped… talk about high drama!

So yes, this was an engaging entry that thrust Joe into the role of protagonist and somehow the series made that much more sense overall. Hopefully, the series continues to build on this foundation and let Zoe Saldana take the lead as only she can. This is more like it! Recommended!
