SLOW HORSES SEASON 2 EP 3: CURIOUSER AND CURIOUSER

Slow Horses Season 2 Ep 3

Slow Horses Season 2 Ep 3 is the third instalment of the second season of a spy thriller television series based on the “Dead Lions” novel by Mick Herron. The 6-episode season 2 is streaming on Apple TV+. The series follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 due to their career-ending mistakes.

Entitled “Drinking Games”, Slow Horses Season 2 Ep 3 suffers its first casualty of the season with the demise of Min Harper. Lamb is unconvinced that Harper’s death is a simple car accident and investigates accordingly. Louisa has to deal with the guilt of Harper’s death but she refuses to let the tragedy get in the way of performing her duties for ‘Spider’ Webb.

Lamb, as usual, manages to get to the bottom of Harper’s death – a bit too quickly – as he discovers that the woman driver involved in the ‘accident’ is not quite what she seems. All this by simply following the woman driver around! Presumably, this is to demonstrate to the audience that despite appearances, Lamb is actually a very competent and effective spy.

In the meantime, River continues his undercover operations in Cotswold as he befriends the Tropper family – first daughter (hotel receptionist), father (Flying Club owner) and mother. The family is instantly suspicious in the manner in which they cosy up to River – almost as if hiding in plain sight. The Troppers are either ‘Cicadas’ themselves or they are aiding and abetting the true spies. Perhaps it’s the latter, when Andre Chernitsky – suspected of killing poor old Dickie – appears at the Tropper household.

Slow Horses Season 2 Ep 3 works well once more as it slowly reveals to us additional elements regarding the ‘Cicada’ network, with Harper’s killing indicative that perhaps Slough House is getting too close for comfort. Recommended!
