Singapore music trendspotters would have observed the rise of female singer-songwriters paired with electronic music producers that have ignited serious interest on streaming platforms like Spotify.
Already the likes of Linying (about 240k monthly Spotify listeners), Sam Rui (about 79k) & Ffion (about 63k) have led this phenomenon and expectations are that more will ride this new wave in the months to come.
Which brings us to Jasmine Sokko (about 37k) and her new single – “Close to You” – a collaboration with New York based producer Lucien, which promises to expose her to a wider audience. Expect this rising star to make a similar impact as the rest of the new wave.
One might say that singer-songwriter Jean Tan comes from a different world from Jasmine Sokko. Jean has been releasing her jazzy folk-pop music for a couple of years now and will be releasing a new EP this year with a healthy dose of electronica blended into her familiar style.
“Crowns” was the first taste of what can be expected from the upcoming EP and now there is a music video to embellish the song as well.
… still there’s more …
