Secret Invasion Ep 2

Secret Invasion Ep 2 is the second chapter in an American television miniseries created by Kyle Bradstreet for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name. It is the ninth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) produced by Marvel Studios, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. It follows Nick Fury and his allies, who attempt to thwart a Skrull invasion of Earth. (Wikipedia)

S P O I L E R S

Secret Invasion Ep 2 is just as jarring as the first episode. Maybe worse, actually. In the opening sequence, we are given flashbacks to ostensibly answer the nagging questions posed by the opening chapter. First, we get scenes from the Captain Marvel movie, where we are shown how Carol Danvers and Nick Fury help the Skull refugees fight off the Kree and then provide aid in finding them a new home planet. But then suddenly, we are back on Earth, and Fury is promising a bunch of Skrulls that if they work for him as spies etc, he would find them a new home?!?!? Huh??? How did we get here from the ending of Captain Marvel? There’s a big chunk of the story missing.

Flash forward to the present in Secret Invasion Ep 2 and Talos is informing Fury that there are a million Skrulls on Earth? How is that possible? If all this is true, how come Fury never mentioned anything about the Skrulls in the Infinity Saga at all? Then, suddenly, from nowhere, Skrull imposters have taken over key world leaders? Nope. Not buying it at all. Nothing makes any sense in the context of the MCU, not in anything previous depicted. Marvel cannot keep their internal continuity straight anymore – which used to be their strength. The MCU is dead, for sure.

Now here’s the other kicker. With the imminent threat of a secret alien invasion upon the Earth, which the American government – represented by James Rhodes – does not take seriously (!), Fury himself refuses to call in the Avengers – whoever that consists of in the MCU present day – or any other superhero, and believes he can handle the problem on his own? Remember also that Maria Hill is dead and Everett Ross was a Skrull, and also now deceased! There goes the suspension of disbelief. Out the window. Ugh.
