Although the legendary British rock band Queen effectively ended with the tragic death of lead singer Freddie Mercury over 20 years ago, the legacy of the band remains vital and strong. Now, add this previously unreleased set of recordings to the must-have with list of every diehard Queen fan.
Between February 1973 and October 1977, the band recorded six radio sessions exclusively for the BBC. The twenty four recordings these landmark sessions produced include alternate versions of the debut single, unique takes of classic album tracks and even a radically reworked reimagining of one of their best known anthems that has never previously appeared on any Queen studio release.
The main interest has been in the alternative version of “We Will Rock You”, which fans will recall was the version that opened the live double LP Queen Live Killers (1979). Other than that, On Air showcases slightly different interpretations of some of Queen deep cuts from the first three LPs (Queen, Queen 2 & Sheer Heart Attack) and of course, News of the World (1977).
The recordings sound crisp and fresh, meticulously restored by Queen engineer Kris Fredriksson and mastered by Grammy Award winner Adam Ayan – so fans will get definitely get a kick out of this walk down memory lane. www.queenonline.com
