A furious debate typically surrounds the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame when it announces its annual inductees. In 2017, the likes of Tupac, Pearl Jam, Joan Baez, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey and Yes have been added to the list.
Our view is that this list is meaningless and irrelevant. Here are just FIVE artists who have been snubbed that demonstrate how flawed this “Hall of Fame” is.
Along with Neil Young and David Bowie, Rundgren was one of the most influential artists of the 70s. Not only that but his stellar work as a producer demands formal recognition and his exclusion from the “Hall of Fame” continues to mystify.
Where would electronic music be without these German pioneers? Considering the acceptance of rap within the “Hall of Fame”, the rejection of the band that was essential in the development of electronica is ridiculous.
The ‘Mats never quite achieved commercial heights that the likes of R.E.M. managed but it’s arguable that Paul Westerberg and company were highly instrumental in the alternative rock boom of the 90s, and this recognition is long overdue.
Another 80s band that had a huge impact on the modern rock scene, The Smiths have also been consistently snubbed by the “Hall of Fame” without any reasonable grounds.
NEW YORK DOLLS
Utterly unbelievable that one of the bands that stoked the fires of punk has also been ignored by the “Hall of Fame”. The exclusion of The New York Dolls indicates that there is something very wrong going on in this so-called rock institution.
And this is merely the tip of the iceberg…
Of course, it’s a matter of opinion whether an inductee deserves to be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame or not, but when you realise that Green Day & Pearl Jam are in, instead of New York Dolls & the ‘Mats, well…
… still there’s more …
