Rick and Morty Season 6 Ep 7 is the seventh episode of season 6 in this scifi fantasy action-adventure animated sitcom created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. The series follows the misadventures of cynical mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his good-hearted but fretful grandson Morty Smith, who split their time between domestic life and inter-dimensional adventures.
S P O I L E R S
Entitled “Full Meta Jackrick”, Rick and Morty Season 6 Ep 7 is a tour de force of creative story-telling as our dysfunctional duo have to travel beyond the fourth wall to fight the return of arch nemesis Story Lord! The plot thickens at a dizzying space as Rick and Morty have to deal with a literal deluge of characters.

But before that, we do a double take as there is a “previously on” at the beginning of the episode as we realise that none of what is being presented ever happened in the series. What’s going on. That’s when Previous Leon (geddit) is introduced, subjecting the duo to events that never happened.

Story Lord is behind all this, a revenge plot against Rick and a means to escape the meta world and invade the real world (so to speak). The Jesus character from that previous Story Lord episode also makes an appearance. Story Lord meets his maker (a failed writer) and utilises him to become invincible by absorbing all the character motivation in the universe!

Probably the best part of the episode is when the superhero team called the Self-Referential Six (made up of writing tropes personified eg. Miss Lead, Flashback, The Twist etc) and Rick and Morty have to fight them in order to return to the ‘real’ world. Of course, they eventually do but only with the assistance of Joseph Campbell (yes, the famed writer that created the Hero’s Journey – the ultimate genre trope structure).
Rick and Morty Season 6 Ep 7 is simply brilliant – still one the best TV series out there!
