Rick and Morty Season 6 Ep 1 is the first episode of season 6 in this scifi fantasy action-adventure animated sitcom created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. The series follows the misadventures of cynical mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his good-hearted but fretful grandson Morty Smith, who split their time between domestic life and inter-dimensional adventures.
S P O I L E R S
Entitled “Solaricks”, Rick and Morty Season 6 Ep 1 picks up at the end of the Season 5 finale where Evil Morty has destroyed the Citadel of Ricks, and has escaped into an alternate reality, leaving our protagonists stranded. Thus at the beginning of the season, it appears that it’s the end of the road for Rick and Morty. But of course, that cannot happen and Space Beth appears to save the day.
Plot
The inciting incident of Rick and Morty Season 6 Ep 1 occurs when Rick, instead of resetting portal travel inadvertently resets portal travellers. Which means that Rick, Morty and Jerry will be returned to their original universes! As usual, Rick has a contingency plan and instructs Summer to execute said plan once the trio are transported away.

In order for Rick to find his way back to his adopted universe, he constructs a ship and with the assistance of Summer (together with the two Beths) locates Morty. In the meantime, Morty had an encounter with his original father but in this reality now, Jerry is a self-sufficient apocalyptic survivor. When Rick finds Morty, he reveals that he had adopted this version of Morty because his Rick had killed his family! There is a fight between the two Ricks which ultimately amounts to nothing.

Once reunited with Summer and the two Beths at the now-deserted Citadel, the family picks up Jerry and returns home, where the original Jerry of that universe (second season Jerry?) lets loose a creature that makes that Earth uninhabitable. The episode concludes with the family finding another universe where they replace their alternates by killing them all! Talk about a vicious reboot!
Characters
Rick and Morty is a sitcom thus in this episode, no significant development takes place. However, the post-credit scene does suggest that the Rick variant shown earlier may show up later in the season and provide an antagonistic force to our Rick. Maybe. Maybe not.

The Final Analysis
Rick and Morty Season 6 Ep 1 provides typical multiversal hi-jinks with a twisted status quo arrived at in the end. Should be interesting to see where the writers go this season, with the Evil Morty storyline concluded. Perhaps the two Ricks will settle their scores once and for all? We shall see…
