RAISED BY WOLVES SEASON 2 EPISODE 8

Raised by Wolves S02E08 Analysis

Raised by Wolves Season 2 Episode 8 is the finale of the second season of an American science fiction drama television series created by Aaron Guzikowski. Famed director Ridley Scott is an executive producer on the series and directed the first two episodes of season 1. Thus, the series carries many of the genre hallmarks associated with Scott’s science fiction films especially, the Alien franchise, which we will discuss further below.

Entitled “Happiness”, Raised by Wolves Season 2 Episode 8 provided some clarity with regards to the big mysteries teased in the second season but introduced more plot threads that would be – one assumes – address in the third season, though none has been announced as yet. Definitely, by this season’s end, the status quo has shifted significantly from where we began season 2.

READ OUR ANALYSIS OF RAISED BY WOLVES.

The main issue revolves around Grandmother, the ancient android that Father had helped to resurrect, and whom we now discover has a sinister agenda for the humans in the tropical zone, which is at odds with the objectives of both Mother and Father. Essentially, the monstrous beings seen in the acid ocean were devolved from humans and that is what Grandmother has in store for the humans in the tropical zone (!) – her reasoning being that the removal of higher intelligence leads to ‘happiness’. But of course, in order to achieve these ends, Mother has to be removed from the equation.

The other issue still involved the entity, which has been sending out telepathic messages to the humans to do its bidding. By the end of the season, we are still no wiser concerning the identity of this entity so hopefully we will have a third season to explore this more fully. The flip flopping of Marcus’ loyalty towards the end of the season was a tad unconvincing and the puzzling way his feud with Lucius ended will be an absolute head scratcher.

Thematically and symbolically, the Christian imagery throughout is impossible to ignore – the serpent, the tree of life, the cross motif etc – and Raised by Wolves Season 2 Episode 8 doubled down on this with that scene involving Marcus. Overall, season 2 was much stronger than season 1 but a third season is definitely needed to make more sense of the various mysteries. Hopefully soon!
