Raised by Wolves Season 2 Episode 5 is the fifth instalment of the second season of an American science fiction drama television series created by Aaron Guzikowski. Famed director Ridley Scott is an executive producer on the series and directed the first two episodes of season 1. Thus, the series carries many of the genre hallmarks associated with Scott’s science fiction films especially, the Alien franchise, which we will discuss further below.
Entitled “King”, Raised by Wolves Season 2 Episode 5 maintains the fast-paced plotting that has been a hallmark of season 2 thus far. Once more, the status quo has been altered significantly in the space of an episode. Interestingly enough, Mother does not play a big part here as more focus is placed on Marcus and Sue as they face their own challenges trying to make sense of the events unfolding in front of them. In addition, for the first time, we finally hear the voice that has been previously been attributed to Sol by both Marcus and Paul, as Sue experiences a new reality.

The thematic thrust of atheism vs religious faith continues to inform much of the characters’ motivations even as the synthetics make their mark – quite literally – on the humans. The strange creatures previously seen in season 1 also make an appearance – still without any understanding of what they are and where they come from. The fine line between human and android continues to be explored in this series mirroring the boundary between science and faith, so to speak. The best part of the writing so far is that it keeps the audience guessing – nothing is predictable or telegraphed, which certainly a strength of this second season thus far.
While Raised by Wolves Season 2 Episode 5 certainly raises (sorry) more questions – with no answers still – hopefully this will be addressed in the final episodes of this intriguing season. Recommended.
