PoP RECOMMENDS | THE NEW ROCK N ROLL : BEECHWOOD – SONGS FROM THE LAND OF NOD

Looking back to move forward. NYC trio Beechwood might be accused of backward gazing when it comes to musical inspiration but what’s the problem when the results are so good?

Beechwood’s aesthetic is 60s garage without a doubt (e.g. “Ain’t Gonna Last All Night” and “I Don’t Wanna Be the One You Love”).

However, there’s also a left field 60s/80s indie pop sensibility that moves from Velvets to JAMC with a track like “C/F”.

Which may make Beechwood out of step with whatever is going on in the modern rock scene – well, shoegazy throwbacks mainly – but isn’t that what the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll is all about?

And Beechwood is definitely possessed by a huge dollop of that!
