Brent Rademaker is a shining example of what a singer-songwriter-musician inspired by the right influences can achieve in respect of our beloved retro-pop music. Already a PoP legend for his work with Beachwood Sparks and The Tyde, Rademaker returned to music making in a big way with GospelbeacH.
After a welcome though not earth-shattering debut LP in 2016, GospelbeacH return with a sophomore effort that once again epitomises our various PoP obsessions viz. Power Pop, Pop Rock, Rock N Roll and Americana!
The opening three numbers captures the agenda succinctly with the Gram-channelling “In the Desert”, the Crazy Horse referencing “Hangin’ On” and the Cheap Trick tribute of “California Fantasy”. Not that Rademaker and company are merely aping their forebears, there is enough originality and character to mark Another Summer of Love with distinction.
From then on, it’s a heady mash-up of these varied inspirations – making the album a brilliant distillation of 70s melodic pop-rock that never shies away from eclectic sophistication. Melodies that stick immediately to the memory grounded by well-crafted arrangements & impressive instrumentation that will keep surprising the astute listener.
A celebration of the best musical tastes!
