Now for something completely different! Here’s a combination of music and books that is fairly unique from Lusterlit.
Bushwick Book Club founder, Susan Hwang and BBC contributor and producer, Charlie Nieland (a.k.a. Lusterlit) have joined forces to produce literature-inspired pop music.
Thus on this EP, we have songs inspired by Cormac McCartney’s Blood Meridian – the dirge-like “Ceremony”, John Lethem’s Day of the Triffids – the sinister droning “Day of the Triffids” and Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of Cooking – the jazzy title track.
While the concept is enthralling, the execution probably needs more consideration. There is always the nagging thought that this is a collection of novelty songs rather than proper artistic works. But guess that’s part of the risk attached to this ambitious conceit.
