Would be fair to assert that singer-songwriter Beck has generally covered three distinctive styles in his career thus far – country-folk roots, urban hip-hop R&B and post-modern pop-rock.
New album Colors finds Beck in the familiar territory of urban music with a tinge of pop after Morning Phase‘s flirtation with folk.
The whole exercise is rather light-weight and a clear indication that Beck does not want to be taken to seriously.
In “Dreams”, he sings – “She’s making me high/I wanna get me free/Nothing gonna get me in my world”. For “Wow”, it’s the sentiment of “It’s like wow/It’s like right, right now” – nothing substantial.
Not one of Beck’s significant compositional efforts but good fun nonetheless. And it’s probably something we need right now.
… still there’s more …
