Armed with a Rickenbacker, with his perpetual hippie locks and easy-going demeanour, Petty’s music was a perfect distillation of 60s pop, with nods to The Byrds, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Beach Boys and The Beatles.
Tom Petty sold over 80 millions and was one of the best-selling artists of all time. He will be missed.
