Entitled “Hide and Seek”, Picard Season 2 Episode 9 is the proverbial endgame for Picard and crew’s battle with the Borg Queen. With the Borg Queen essentially in control of Dr. Jurati, able to assimilate dangerous marines and convince Soong to aid her cause, it seems like the odds are stacked against Picard. Not only that but Picard continues to work out his childhood trauma in the midst of this battle! That seems to be a popular plot point in recent scifi or superhero streamers.
So while the action quotient has punched up significantly, the plot logic continues to be questionable throughout the episode. Somehow, Jurati is able to activate a hologram of Elnore – and it’s never clear how that works. In any case, the Elnore hologram gives Seven and Raffi time to get onto the ship but sadly are no match for the Borg Queen whatsoever.
Over at the abandoned Picard chateau, Soong – who’s motivation to aid the Borg Queen seems incredibly flawed – leads a group of Borg marines to kill Picard. This leads to a highly distracting jaunt once more through Picard’s memories to reach a core traumatic event. Not that it makes any difference to the story when we find out what that is and it takes a deux ex machina of sorts to save the day, when all appears lost.
Now over at the ship, with the Borg Queen having the upper hand, somehow Jurati convinces the former that becoming a kinder, gentler species will in fact save the Borg from its inevitable destruction (!) – a ploy that the Borg Queen buys! Ridiculous! Thus, Jurati and the Borg Queen truly bond and ‘they’ fly off with the ship! How does that help Picard and crew at all??? if nothing else, that’s a definite character development for Jurati! So… is that Jurati we ultimately see in First Contact, the STTNG movie? Hmmm.
At the end of Picard Season 2 Episode 9, there’s one thing left to do – to save the Europa Mission from Soong (?). Let’s see how this shitshow actually concludes. Yikes.
