Entitled “Monsters”, Picard Season 2 Episode 7 puts the narrative built up in the previous six episodes on hold! Instead of Picard and company continuing to chase the quest of getting Renee Picard on the Europa space mission, most of the episode is spent in Picard’s mind itself as his colleagues try to get him out of a comatose state after Soong had injured him last time out.

Thus, Picard Season 2 Episode 7 has Tallinn entering Picard’s subconscious mind to help him wake from the aforementioned coma and face his deepest fears. Initially it appeared that Picard’s mother was being threatened by a monster. Then it is suggested that the monster was in fact Picard’s father (played by James Callis – Gaius Balthar in Battlestar Galatica), when actually it was his mother who was battling personal demons. But what any of this has to do with the story at hand is not clear.

The other monster in Picard Season 2 Episode 7 is of course the Borg Queen living inside Dr. Jurati although how the former is able to do any of the things she does in this series is unexplained. Talk about deus ex machina! Obviously this Borg Queen sub-plot is set up to make achieving Picard’s ends that much more difficult although once more it’s not evident how any of this is even possible.

And of course, there’s the twist in the tail, when Picard (and Guinan) is apprehended by …. the FBI!!!

Now streaming on Paramount+.
