Entitled “Watcher”, Picard Season 2 Episode 4 finally identifies the titular person of interest (though only at the very end) and it is a bit of a head-scratcher, to be honest. The episode is roughly divided into three parts. Picard gets to meet a younger version of Guinan – an El-Aurian (extremely long-lived) – but she is not the Watcher that Picard needs to find. Presumably, the next episode will explain what the Watcher’s role is, to begin with, and the revelation is confusing. Anyways.

Minutes are chewed up in this episode with the whole pointless Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) commentary, as Rios is arrested for having no identification papers while Musiker and Seven attempt to rescue him. Lots of heavy barely veiled racism going on here with ICE, paralleled by the two ladies leading the police on a merry car chase. Presumably, the former is meant to be topical while the latter, funny but neither manages to achieve what was intended.
And then there’s the ongoing tension between Dr. Jurati and the Borg Queen. Having ‘stolen’ information from the Borg Queen when their minds were connected, the expectation is that somehow the Borg Queen will get the upper hand. It’s all not that interesting to be honest and this particular sub-plot has been dragged out too long.
Picard Season 2 Episode 4 confirms somewhat that this season is currently going nowhere. Much room for improvement. Engage!
