Picard Season 2 Episode 10 Analysis

Picard Season 2 Episode 10 is the finale of the 2nd season of an American television series created by Akiva Goldsman, Michael Chabon, Kirsten Beyer, and Alex Kurtzman for the streaming service Paramount+. The series is a spin-off of Star Trek: The Next Generation (STTNG) with the titular character Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) as its central focal point.

Entitled “Farewell”, Picard Season 2 Episode 10 wraps up the season nicely enough though nothing can actually solve any of the problems of this poor season by this point. The first half of this season finale has Picard and crew saving Renee Picard and the Europa mission from Soong’s machinations but it’s barely an inconvenience, apart from Tallinn’s sacrificial death that is.

With the climatic half of Picard Season 2 Episode 10 done and dusted, the rest of the finale resolves numerous issues to bring forth a new status quo in the Picard/STTNG universe. Rios decides to remain in the 21st century, Elnore is brought back to life, Jurati is now one half of the Borg Queen, Seven and Raffi are a couple and the Traveler formerly known as Wesley Crusher makes an appearance to recruit Cory as Soong embarks on the Khan project (i.e. the eugenics experience that led to Khan in the future).

Fan-service and Easter eggs are the sum of Picard Season 2. Disappointing because season 1 – while containing all these things – managed to have a strong plot and characterisation as well. However, the most ridiculous plot point, involves Q as the ‘deity’ reveals that he only caused Picard such pain and suffering because he loved him! That kind of ‘love’ we can all do without. An awful conclusion to an awful season. Bring on season 3 – cannot be any worse, can it?
