Peacemaker S01E04 is the fourth episode of an American superhero comedy drama streaming television series created by James Gunn for the streaming service HBO Max, based on the DC Comics character Peacemaker. It is the first DC Extended Universe (DCEU) television series, a spin-off from the 2021 film The Suicide Squad.

Entitled “The Choad Less Travelled”, Peacemaker S01E04 is somewhat reflective after the frenetic action of the first three episodes, as Peacemaker and his team get some down time to process the realities of “Project Butterfly” and confront the implications therein. While the main story arc of the series does not get developed, we get more insight into Chris Smith/Peacemaker and his relationship with his father, white supremacist supervillain White Dragon.

Peacemaker S01E04 does a good job in allowing the audience to get to know the different characters a little better, with special focus on Peacemaker of course. At the same time, Adrian Chase/Vigilante also gets the opportunity to cement his own position within the “Project Butterfly” strike force with a botch attempt at killing the White Dragon in prison.

In addition, rookie agent Leota Adebayo – actually Amanda Waller’s daughter – begins to realise that she is not cut out for this life and accepts that she is nothing like a mother. Adebayo provides the audience with a human perspective in the amidst of trained killers and spy technicians. The conflict within Adebayo also supplies the series with drama and tension – at least she appears to have a conscience and is not quite so cavalier with hurting others in aid of a mission.

Peacemaker S01E04 ends with a disturbing reflection that changes our perception of the titular character as simply the biggest douchebag in the world. Perhaps there is more depth to Peacemaker than made out in The Suicide Squad and the early episodes of this series. Recommended.
Now streaming on HBO Max.
