Peacemaker S01E01 – S01E03 are the first three episodes of an American superhero comedy drama streaming television series created by James Gunn for the streaming service HBO Max, based on the DC Comics character Peacemaker. It is the first DC Extended Universe (DCEU) television series, a spin-off from the 2021 film The Suicide Squad.
Peacemaker S01E01 – S01E03 sets up the basic premise that will run through the eight episodes scheduled for the first season. Essentially, the series picks up a couple of months after the end of The Suicide Squad, where Chris Smith (John Cena) a.k.a. Peacemaker – having survived being shot and having a building dropped on him (!) – is re-assigned by Task Force X head honcho Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) to a new mission (Project Butterfly) with a new team.
This new team consists of leader Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji) who reports directly to Waller, John Economos (Steve Agee) who provides tactical support (reprising his role in The Suicide Squad), agent Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and rookie agent Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), who hides a relevant secret from the rest of the team. Along for the ride is superhero Adrian Chase a.k.a. Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) basically a DC version of Marvel’s Punisher.
As Peacemaker S01E01 – S01E03 clearly demonstrates, this series is an absolute farce but in the best possible way! This is James Gunn unleashed i.e. profanities, gratuitous sex, loads of violence and gore! In other words, some of the most anti-PC content anyone has ever seen in a superhero story! Deadpool has nothing on Peacemaker! After all, Gunn himself has described the character as “the biggest douchebag in the world!”
So…. make sure you are strapped in before you embark on the thrilling rollercoaster ride that is Peacemaker! Highly recommended!
