Pam & Tommy Episodes 1 – 3 are the first three instalments of an American biographical drama miniseries chronicling the marriage between actress Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, respectively played by Lily James and Sebastian Stan, during the period their unauthorized sex tape was made public. Seriously, when someone says “Pam and Tommy”, the only thing that comes to mind is SEXTAPE!
Pam & Tommy Episodes 1 – 3 live up to the insane possibilities offered up by these cartoony characters and the bizarre situation the couple found themselves in. It certainly helps that both Anderson and Lee are somewhat unlikable personalities to begin with – their celebrity status going to their massive egos and viewers cannot help but feel some sense of karma was achieved in the story that unfolded.
James and Stan are excellent in their respective roles – considering that both Anderson and Lee are fake plastic and larger-than-life, it gave both actors room (and artistic license) to present their characters as over-the-top as possible! And when you think that the premise revolves around the infamous SEXTAPE there is of course, copious amounts of sex and nudity in this – including prosthetic breasts and (talking) penis – which has to be seen to be believed. Hilarious.
Thus, it never matters that we as the audience never quite engage with these ridiculous characters in Pam & Tommy Episodes 1 – 3, as the manner in which the couple hook up, marry and essentially piss off everybody around them, seems to justify the shitstorm that ultimately comes their way. Amazing how almost thirty years after the fact, this SEXTAPE incident laid down a marker which defined the change brought about by the nascent internet.
Pam & Tommy Episodes 1 – 3 provides the perfect setup for the rest of this miniseries. Get ready for a wild ride!
