Premise
No One Will Save You has Kaitlyn Dever as Brynn, an exiled anxiety-ridden homebody who must battle an alien who has found its way into her home during an invasion of Earth.
Good
No One Will Save You contains enough visual cues and touch points that fans of alien invasion movies will appreciate, with the grey aliens being depicted accurately according to urban legend. With hardly any dialogue in the movie, lead Dever delivers a convincing performance mostly with her facial expressions as she ‘performs’ with the computer-generated alien beings. Most of the audience engagement is in identifying with Brynn, the main character’s unfortunate plight. The movie also does a decent job in fleshing out Byrnn’s background which involves the killing of her best friend, thereby resulting in her being an outcast in her own hometown.
Bad
However, ultimately the plot makes no sense whatsoever. Of course, it is clear enough that Brynn is fighting for her life against the alien beings but even when she escapes the being that attacked her in her home, she inexplicably returns to her house (?) where the fight for survival starts all over again. No forward movement in the story whatsoever! Presumably, the aliens’ goal is world conquest though none of that is really explained. The spider-like creature that possesses the humans presumably is for that purpose, but nothing concrete comes out of that. Worse still to come with the silly twist for its own sake. Almost, as if the film had no idea how to end the story.
Conclusion
In the final analysis, while No One Will Save You gets the alien invasion genre trappings right, the story is a complete letdown. A couple of shocks for your Halloween viewing but not much else!
