S P O I L E R S
Entitled “Seeing Red”, Ms. Marvel Episode 4 finds Kamala (and her mother) visiting her grandmother in Karachi, Pakistan. Considering how disappointing the previous episode was, we were hoping that things would pick up for the series in this episode. Sadly, they do not! Once more, everything that happens in this series is very convenient indeed.
For example, Kamala meets the Red Daggers – an organisation protecting the bangle from falling in the hands of ClanDestine. How? One of their members, Kimo, conveniently shows up, has an obligatory fight scene with Kamala and then brings Kamala to his leader. The leader is no more help than ClanDestine in clearing the mystery of Kamala’s origins. Once more, we are given the whole rigmarole about yet another dimension – where Kamala and ClanDestine originated from – but this time with sinister overtones regarding ClanDestine’s plan to destroy our world so that their dimension can take over. How that works exactly is never clear. Convenient.
Speaking of ClanDestine, after commenting on how easily Damage Control captured them in episode 3, the group break out of the Raft – even The Abomination could not manage that – and it’s barely an inconvenience in doing so. Not only that but somehow they find out the location of the Red Daggers’ secret HQ (in Pakistan no less) to come after Kamala and the bangle! Plainly ridiculous.
Ms. Marvel Episode 4 demonstrates why many of the Disney+ MCU series are failing – without any real connection to the MCU, they come across as extremely boring (apart from Moon Knight) – lacking a compelling storyline and only serving as an introduction to new characters. Sigh.
Now streaming on Disney+.
