Entitled “Something Borrowed, Something Green”, Lower Decks Season 4 Ep 4 was set almost entirely on Orion as D’Vana Tendi – with Mariner and T’Lyn – returns home to attend her sister’s wedding. When she arrives, she discovers that her sister D’Erika has been kidnapped by a former suitor and her family tasks D’Vana to rescue her. The episode reveals that D’Vana is more of typical Orion than believed, as D’Vana tried her best to downplay her Orion nature as much as possible. Ultimately, D’Vana finds out that D’Erika had faked her own abduction as a form of acting out before her wedding and the two sisters resolve their differences amicably after a brief sword-fight.
An entertaining chapter that focuses for once on D’Vana’s Orion personalities, with the stoic Vulcan T’Lyn counterpointing Mariner’s wildness well. Definitely a solid addition to the cast of characters. Throughout the episode, it was made clear that D’Vana’s nerdy tendencies and interest made her unsuitable for the pirate’s life and Starfleet was the prefect organisation for her to be her true self. An engaging character study as well. Recommended!
