Loki S01E03

Loki S01E03 is the third instalment of the first season of a scifi superhero action-adventure drama set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The series stars Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as the God of Mischief, Loki Laufeyson which Hiddleston had previously portrayed in the MCU, most notably as the main antagonist in The Avengers.

Entitled “Lamentis”, Loki S01E03 offers us viewers a closer look at Sylvie – as the female Loki variant calls herself. After a botched attempt to storm the TVA headquarters, Sylvie and Loki teleport to Lamentis-1 in 2077, as the planet is about to be destroyed by its moon – one of the several apocalyptic events alluded to in the previous episode.

Though Loki S01E03 started out promisingly, it ultimately disappointed  and spent much of its screen time ‘treading water’ so to speak. That entire sequence of Sylvie and Loki on the train was a waste of time and we are beginning to wonder whether there is anything of substance in this series whatsoever. Once more, like the last episode, there is a prolonged expository period as Sylvie and Loki get to know each other. However, Sophia Di Martino (who plays Sylvie) is not quite as engaging an actor as Owen Wilson (as Mobius) and thus it gets boring fast!

Now, we are obviously setting out our stall as purely contrarian as far as this Loki series is concerned. Based on our online observations, Loki is a veritable hit! Which is perplexing as so far, the plodding storyline has done nothing to deserve the popular attention. Perhaps it is all to do with Tom Hiddleston or a clear indication that the MCU zombie is really a contemporary incarnation of its 80s Marvel Comics counterpart?

For us, Loki S01E03 – like the rest of the series so far – is a flop.
