The words “Zouk” and “orchestra” don’t seem to go together. But they will tonight and Saturday night as two contrary musical forces (viz. orchestral music and house music) combine to pay tribute to the iconic club’s 25 year tenure at Jiak Kim Street.
The concert aims to replicate the dance floor experience with a completely live performance of 25 years of House music anthems.
Roughly in chronological order, the performance will feature tracks carefully chosen, sampled, remixed and finally mixed continuously into a 70-90 minute DJ set by Aldrin Quek, each track representing a dance music period and genre played in he different rooms at Jiak Kim Street, through the years.
This mix of trip hop, big beat, techno, soulful, progressive, tech, tribal and other sub-genres of house music was then meticulously transcribed for instruments and vocals by Indra.
The concert will also feature guest performances from some of Singapore’s top musicians and vocalists from various musical backgrounds, including violinist Lynnette Seah (Co- concert Master, Singapore Symphony Orchestra), Indian Classical Tabla player M S Maniam, accomplished jazz singer Rani Singam, and lead singer of (now defunct) alternative rock band, Zircon Lounge and current Lush 99.5 DJ, X’Ho.
Highly ambitious and definitely one for lovers of new musical experiences. It all begins at 8.30pm at the Capitol Theatre.
