LANEWAY SINGAPORE 2016 BREAKDOWN – EAST INDIA YOUTH, FLUME & GDJYB

Laneway2016

Laneway Singapore 2016 is now 15 days away and Power of Pop gives you the lowdown on the TWENTY-ONE artists who will grace the occasion on 30th January (in alphabetical order).

EAST INDIA YOUTH

Englishman William Doyle (aka East India Youth) dabbles in the widely youth-centric electro-pop that the likes of CHVRCHES specialise in. Again, Doyle’s focus on dance music gives him a very lightweight appeal though hopefully more of the ambient techno that also features in his work will surface in his live performance.

Recommended — twentysomething indie pop lovers.

FLUME

Harley Edward Straiten (a.k.a Flume) is an Australian music producer that will provide the electronic dance music that appeals strongly to the club-hopping youth of today. Within this arena, Flume stands out with distinctive sounds and loops, creating a unique experience through sonics and ambience created.

Recommended for – twenty something electro-dance lovers.

GDJYB

Describing themselves as ‘math-folk’ (with tongue in cheek presumably) Hong Kong’s GDJYB come across as fairly straightforward indie rock, which the requisite portions of repetitive guitar patterns, bouncy rhythms and appropriate female vocals. Again, kudos to Laneway organisers for injecting a regional aspect to the festival.

Recommended for – twentysomething indie rock lovers.
