House of the Dragon Season 1 Ep 7 is the seventh instalment of an American fantasy TV drama series based on the Fire and Blood novel written by George RR Martin and is a prequel to the highly successful Game of Thrones TV series. House of the Dragon will focus on the war of succession within House Targaryen, the ruling House of Westeros, almost 200 years before the events depicted in Game of Thrones.
S P O I L E R S
Entitled “Driftmark”, House of the Dragon Season 1 Ep 7 underscores again how superior the written plot and characterisations of this series are, compared to the boring and insipid The Rings of Power! The funeral of Laena brings every relevant character to Driftmark and it’s there that the deep divisions within King Visery’s family explode. Sparked by Prince Aemond’s claiming Laenor’s dragon Vhagor in the dead of the night, a fight between Aemond and his young cousins end up with him losing an eye. In the meantime, on the beach, Daemon and Rhaenyras are getting reacquainted (in a manner of speaking)…
Obviously, this leads to Alicent baying for vengeance in front of Viserys, while Rhaenyra tries to defend and protect her boys. When Viserys refuses to do anything, Alicent goes mad and tries to kill Rhaenyra, eventually inflicting a wound on the latter’s arm before standing down. Of course, all this achieves is to lower Visery’s estimation of her and strengthen Rhaenyra. However, Rhaenyra feels insecure and convinces her uncle to marry her. But wait! What about Laenor then? Ahhh, there’s the delicious twist that needs to be seen and enjoyed. Kudos!
House of the Dragon Season 1 Ep 7 positions all the pieces for civil war, when Viserys dies. Rhaenyra now has Daemon as her prince consort while Alicent’s side has gained a dragon. Question is ultimately where will Corlys stand? Intriguing!
The Final Analysis
House of the Dragon Season 1 Ep 7 has set the scene for a potentially exciting final three episodes of the first season. Highly recommended!
