Entitled “Allegiance”, Halo Season 1 Episode 8 is a critical episode in this 1st season as several plot points come to a head. After the Madrigal excursion last time out, it was good to get back to The Reach and resolve the issues amongst John-117, Makee, Halsey et al. In this respect, the UNSC leaders come across as inept as the situation is spiralling out of their control.
First and foremost, Halo Season 1 Episode 8 handles the John-Makee bond quite well, revealing Makee to be a bit more than the Covenant drone that she appeared to be in the earlier instalments. She obviously feels that John and her are “blessed” with a higher purpose, beyond the UNSC-Covenant war. This bond is consummated sexually and there is a real sense of positivity moving forward in their budding relationship.
But of course, things never work out as planned as behind the scenes, Halsey is working hard to override her expulsion from the Keystone project by manipulating Spartans to her side to steal the Keystone and kidnap both John and Makee. But ironically, Halsey’s designs are undone by Cortana, who demonstrates more loyalty to John than Halsey, in a killer twist.
By the end of Halo Season 1 Episode 8, the status quo has been upended setting up a potentially exciting season finale!
