Halo Season 1 Episode 5 is the fifth episode of an American military science fiction television series developed by Kyle Killen and Steven Kane for the streaming service Paramount+, based on the video game franchise of the same name. The series had been languishing in development hell since 2013 before becoming a streaming TV series, after failing to appear as a movie or traditional TV series. The first season will feature nine episodes, with a 2nd season already greenlit.

Entitled “Reckoning”, Halo Season 1 Episode 5 brings to a head all the conflicts simmering within the UNSC and Spartan ranks, as the Covenant also strikes a blow against the UNSC in the struggle for the Keystone artefacts. As Master Chief John-117 discovers more repressed memories, he begins to distrust Halsey more and more.
Halo Season 1 Episode 5 was another strong instalment with the characterisations beginning to develop greater complexity. This is often not the case with video game adaptations, which sometimes rank a notch lower than comic book adaptations in terms of building interesting characters beyond the flat two-dimensional cardboards. For John-117, his sense of self and doubts over Halsey’s intentions, make him a very dangerous unpredictable presences within the UNSC. Within John-117 himself, the presence of Cortana presents a huge obstacle as it can control him easily – how John-117 deals with this weakness in the coming episodes will be intriguing.
The sub-plot of Kwan and Soren on Madrigal seems to be going in circles somewhat – basically it is going nowhere. Kwan is annoying and Soren is dumb, let’s put it that way. Presumably, the series is going to get matters on Madrigal come to a head as well. At the end of the episode, Makee once more makes her play to infiltrate the UNSC, it would seem ridiculous for the latter to fall for her tricks again but who knows.
Now streaming on Paramount+.
