HALO SEASON 1 EPISODE 4 (ANALYSIS)

Halo Season 1 Episode 4 is the fourth episode of an American military science fiction television series developed by Kyle Killen and Steven Kane for the streaming service Paramount+, based on the video game franchise of the same name. The series had been languishing in development hell since 2013 before becoming a streaming TV series, after failing to appear as a movie or traditional TV series. The first season will feature nine episodes, with a 2nd season already greenlit.

Entitled Homecoming, Halo Season 1 Episode 4 presents us with two plots of concern along with a minor sub-plot. The main narrative follows John-117 back to his homeworld to learn about the visions he has been experiencing and also finding the other part of the Keystone. It is commendable that the series is spending time to develop John’s backstory as he is the main character and it make it easier for the audience to identify with him as the season unfolds.

The secondary plot finds Kwan returning to Madrigal with Soren and discovering that all her hopes of the resistance regaining a foothold are merely a childish delusion. That seems to be the vital character point being made here – Kwan is unable to accept the harsh reality that Madrigal has been lost to the resistance and effectively the USNC is in charge. Kwan’s quest does not quite progress John’s story and thus it will be curious to see where the series goes with this.

The other intriguing sub-plot involves Dr Keyes and Kai-125 as they begin to foster an unlikely bond in their quest to understand the Keystones and the Covenant language. Should be interesting to see how this develops. Minimal progress but progress nonetheless.
