Premise
Entitled “Guardians of Godolkin”, Gen V Ep 8 has Cate and Sam freeing the prisoners in the Woods and God U goes crazy.
Good
This season finale finds Cate and Sam – together with freed supes from the Woods – killing every human on campus indiscriminately. The only ones who can stop them are Marie, Jordan, Andre and Emma. Effectively it’s similar to an X-Men vs Dark Phoenix scenario! Thus, with everything in the open, there’s not much plot and/or character development and what we are left with is pure carnage. Marie is really the most powerful supe on campus as she slowly begins to expand her control of her powers – as advised by Neuman – and she single-handedly stops Cate by blowing off her arm!
Bad
And this is where it gets confusing as Homelander swoops in and thinking that Marie and gang are the bad guys, attacks her instead. Before you know it, the quartet are trapped in a windowless facility and Cate and Sam are christened the “Guardians of Godolkin” – typical Vought spin! Nothing is quite explained so presumably, we will understand more in the 4th season of The Boys. This is teased with Butcher’s appearance at the very end, having discovered the existence of the supes virus. Meaningless cameos or significant plot points? Hard to say.
Conclusion
Gen V Ep 8 is a mixed bag but whets the appetite for the next instalment of The Boys universe. Will we get to see Marie and co in The Boys or is that for a second season of Gen V? We think the series has done enough for a season renewal! Recommended!
