Premise
Entitled “Jumanji”, Gen V Ep 6 is an entire chapter spent more or less in Cate’s head as she imprisons Marie, Jordan and Andre in her psyche – including a bizarre guest ‘appearance’ by Soldier Boy! Meanwhile, Emma hooks up with Sam and Dr Shetty continues to conspire against the supes.
Good
Last time out, we were rather disappointed with the logic behind the previous episode’s storyline. Mainly about Cate’s motivation to betray her close friends. Perhaps we jumped the gun somewhat as this chapter takes pains to explain exactly why. Thus, we are shown that Dr Shetty had manipulated Cate from a young age – rejected by her mother due to her powers, Dr Shetty gains her trust and becomes the mother figure that she lacks. This character development is crucial in the grand scheme of things, especially in understanding this particular plot twist. In fact, even more secrets are revealed in flashbacks which certainly fleshes out the characters well.
Bad
As mentioned before, Sam’s psychosis – with the soft toy figures – is too close to Black Noir’s malaise for comfort but there you go. The other issue is Dr Shetty – why is she hellbent on finding a way to kill supes? Isn’t that contrary to Vought’s interests? Perhaps that will come to light soon enough.
Conclusion
Gen V Ep 6 is an enlightening chapter and gives better insight into our key personalities. Recommended.
