Gen V Ep 5 Analysis

Gen V Ep 5 is the fifth chapter of an American superhero television series, developed by Craig Rosenberg, Evan Goldberg, and Eric Kripke, serving as a spin-off of The Boys by Kripke, and based on The Boys comic book story arc “We Gotta Go Now” by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The series is set concurrently with the fourth season of The Boys. (Wikipedia)

Premise
Entitled “Welcome to the Monster Club”, Gen V Ep 5 has the gang waking up after the events at the end of the previous episode, and nobody remembers what happened except Sam.

Bad
Alright. As much as we have loved this series thus far, this is where the shark has been well and truly jumped! So Marie, Emma, Andre, Jordan and Cate have all lost memories? Could it be Rufus, the telepath who tried to rape Marie but got his penis exploded instead? Intriguing misdirection but subsequently, Sam informs Marie and Emma that it was … Cate?!? Huh? But Cate’s power is mind control via touch, so how could she have touched FOUR persons without any of the other supes stopping her? Illogical.

In addition, why? There is no reason why Cate would help Dr Shetty and betray her close friends in the process. No explanation given. WTF! And in the end, Cate cops to that fact without much fight. Seriously. Also, is anyone else getting bothered at how similar Sam’s mental issues are to Black Noir’s in The Boys? Again, seriously?

Good
Well, apart from the illogical plot, everything else was top notch but the writing simply ruined things for us.

Conclusion
Gen V Ep 5 is ultimately a disappointment. Halfway through so opportunities for redemption are still available. C’mon!
