Premise
Entitled “The Whole Truth”, Gen V Ep 4 deals with the aftermath of the death of Golden Boy and the escape of his brother Sam from the Woods. Tek Knight is assigned to investigate Golden Boy’s suicide as part of his investigative TV programme, which means suspicion is placed upon Andre, Jordan and Marie. Meanwhile, Emma tries to deal with Sam’s mental issues.
Good
Gen V continues to carry on the tone and energy of The Boys, even managing to raise the ante by a notch – an exploding penis anyone? This version of Tek Knight is unique and brilliant, a marked improvement from the source material, which was more like Iron Man crossed with Batman. Tek Knight is the ultimate detective, possessing highly attuned sensory abilities. Perhaps, Tek Knight was too easily taken down in the process but hopefully, we get to see more of him in the future!
Bad
What’s with the third act? That whole sequence of the gang trying to stop Sam from killing Dr Cardosa is brilliant, including Emma’s binge-eating which causes her to grow into a giantess (yes, the logic can be a bit challenging). But then, we cut out and it’s all made to look like Marie’s dream? Huh? What the fuck happened?
Conclusion
Gen V Ep 4 is brilliant for the most part but the ending is mystifying. Hopefully they have an explanation that makes sense! Recommended.
