Expectations were predictably low for The Gifted, the latest Fox mutant TV series. Based on the synopsis, it appeared similar to Heroes and the first season of Agents of SHIELD. Thankfully, it exceeded our expectations!
Set in an ‘alternate timeline’ from the X-movies, The Gifted stars Stephen Moyer (True Blood) as Reed Strucker, a special prosecutor of young mutants, who have had to protect themselves from human persecution due to the disappearance of the X-Men and Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
However, once Strucker and wife Caitlin (Amy Acker) discover that their children Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andy (Percy Hinds White) have mutant (telekinetic) abilities, he has to contact the mutant underground to save his family.
Prominent amongst the mutants are Lorna Dane/Polaris (Emma Dumont), John Proudstar/Thunderbird (Blair Redford), Clarice Fong/Blink (Jamie Chung) and new character Marcos Diaz/Eclipse (Sean Teale).
The pilot is action-packed with a plot that quickens the pulse. Directed by Bryan Singer, this episode is a perfect introduction to the world of The Gifted and promises much for the future.
… still there’s more …
