GAME OF THRONES FINALE: THE WHIMPER HEARD AROUND THE WORLD

I had zero expectations going into the Game of Thrones finale but somehow it managed to disappoint me anyways. Suffice to say that the series ended, not with a bang but with a whimper.
A whimper that reverberated around the world, mind you. It’s strange to think that considering all the obsessiveness that the series has generated in the eight years it has been around, it should conclude in the worst possible way.
I guess when you are in the business of subverting expectations for the sake of it, then even the low expectations brought about by that illogical penultimate episode can be confounded further by more illogical plot points. Yes, Dany turning into the villain of the piece was a big twist BUT it was unearned. The writers never gave this character development time to grow – it just happened!
Anyways, the series is over and done with. Yes, in a totally unsatisfactory manner but at least we can stop talking about Game of Thrones being such ground-breaking TV. In the final analysis, it will go the way of other reviled series that ended poorly viz. Lost and BSG.
