FROM SEASON 2 EP 8: CONSPIRACIES

FROM Season 2 Ep 8

FROM Season 2 Ep 8 is the 18th chapter of a science fiction horror television series created by John Griffin. Its premise involves a nightmarish town in middle America that traps everyone who enters where unwilling residents strive to stay alive and search for a way out, but they are plagued by the terrifying nocturnal creatures from the surrounding forest, and secrets hidden in the town itself.

Entitled “Forest for the Trees”, FROM Season 2 Ep 8 doubles down on its insistence of giving nothing away and in fact, with the Randall character introduces even more mysteries into the already muddled equation. Randall represents the American idiocy of conspiracy theories whereby questioning everything becomes a way of life. Excellent commentary of the current American state of mind but not particularly helpful in bringing any clarity to the proceedings.

Even if we accept – as FROM Season 2 Ep 8 proposes – that the mysteries that lead nowhere are the core of this narrative then the series has to serve us relatable characters that the audience can invest in and root for. Vincent is a prime example as Jade harasses him for answers – and suddenly becomes the voice of the audience – bringing about a realisation of Vincent’s deep trauma and his declaration that “this is my home”, which suggests a nugget of truth in Randall’s conspiracy theories that there are ‘moles’ in the town’s populace.

Of course, Randall’s paranoid delusions lead to inevitable results much to Jim’s instant regret. If nothing else, the series succeeds in creating tension without affording too much release, and perhaps that is enough to keep the interest going? In any case, a confrontation with the nocturnal creatures is certainly on the cards, if only to test whether Boyd has a weapon in the cause. Time running out to the season finale.
