From Season 1 Episode 8 is the eighth instalment of the first season of an American science fiction-horror television series created and written by John Griffin and executive produced by the Russo brothers. The premise – a seemingly normal middle American town is actually a nightmarish trap which keeps unwilling residents captive. But worse than that, at night murderous monsters roam the town and are only kept at bay if residents stay indoors and are protected by strange artefacts. Staying alive and searching for a way out occupy the minds of these unfortunate victims.

Entitled “Broken Windows, Open Doors”, From Season 1 Episode 8 spends most of its allotted duration in flashback as we finally get to see the arrival of the Stevens family at the town. In addition, we are given an understanding of Ellis’ estrangement from Boyd, which is derived from the death of Abby Stevens, Boyd’s wife and Ellis’ mother. Perhaps only the latter event is essential context for the story moving ahead but other than that the flashback scenes are not crucial and somewhat a waste of time and meaningless to move the story forward.

And that is really once more, as in previous recent episodes, the main flaw in From Season 1 Episode 8 – we are still no wiser about the mysteries surrounding the town. After the traumatic events of the last episode, Boyd rethinks his idea to venture into the deep forest (with Kristi) for answers but is ultimately persuaded by his deputy Kenny to resume his journey. That and the radio tower project – proposed by Jim Matthews – on top of Colony House remains the only real possibility at solving the mysteries of this series. Disappointing.
