From S01E07 Story Analysis

From S01E07 is the seventh instalment of the first season of an American science fiction-horror television series created and written by John Griffin and executive produced by the Russo brothers. The premise – a seemingly normal middle American town is actually a nightmarish trap which keeps unwilling residents captive. But worse than that, at night murderous monsters roam the town and are only kept at bay if residents stay indoors and are protected by strange artefacts. Staying alive and searching for a way out occupy the minds of these unfortunate victims.

Entitled “All Good Things…”, From S01E07 continues the frustrating narrative malaise that has been plaguing this series from the first episode – that damn adherence to Abrams’ ‘mystery box’ storytelling. Nothing moves forward at all from the previous status quo, instead what we do get is the answer to Victor’s ominous warning that graves needed to be dug, highlighted a couple of episodes again and seemingly forgotten.

READ OUR ANALYSIS OF FROM.

Considering how stupid the folks in the town are, the residents of Colony House should have heeded the omens instead of throwing a party for Fatima, as they did. Once more, some clueless individual forgets that the night creatures outside the window will kill you and the results are predictable. Frankly, the whole grisly incident was boring and once more did not progress the plot a single iota – what was the point? Which is the basic problem with From – nothing happens, well, nothing interesting anyways.

That said, Victor – probably the most important character now – uses the Farway Tree (remember that?) to teleport Julie Matthews to… who knows where? Intriguing but yet another mystery to ponder. Sigh. From S01E07 is as trying as the previous episodes in this ‘mystery box’ series going nowhere. Hm.
